WODshop.com Athlete Sgt. David (Davey) Lind participates in First Ever CrossFit Competition
On June 14, 2007, in Iraq, al Anbar Province, Reconnaissance Platoon Sergeant Davey Lind was commanding 25 of his fellow marines, and riding in the last vehicle of six, when his Humvee hit a pressure plate IED (also known as a roadside bomb). His injuries were extensive and the doctor told him to expect a 10 month recovery.
This didn’t fly with Davey.
He was due to be promoted to Master Sergeant in November of that year. He was also asked to be in a wedding, on August 25, 2007. Davey decided he did NOT want his legs to defy or define him. He decided he wouldn’t go down the aisle, at the wedding, in a wheelchair and he would walk at his promotion.
On August 14, 2007, exactly 2 months after the attack, Sgt. Lind took his first steps in prosthetics.
The military had always prepared him for life or death situations but never for dealing with serious injuries. After attaining his goal, the years passed and he fell into routine life. He describes himself as eating too much and only golfing for exercise.
It was then that a friend suggested he join CrossFit.
On February 2012, he took the advice of his friend. At that time he was 240 pounds. Once Davey started he was immediately sucked in! He found a new purpose and started setting new goals. One of which was to lose 40 pounds by his 5 year Alive Day, on June 14, 2012.
By working out at CrossFit, and embracing Paleo as a lifestyle, Davey reached his goal this past Monday, June 10, 2012 and continues to challenge himself. “Everyday I get up is a challenge.”
Davey isn’t done yet.
He’s set new goals to maintain his weight, get stronger and to find an opportunity to compete at CrossFit Regional’s – in a challenged athlete division.
Please join us in celebrating Davey Lind’s inspirational attitude this Saturday, Nov. 2, 2103 as Davey participates in his first ever CrossFit competition – Rebel Rising held at Red Wolf CrossFit in Huntington Beach, CA.
